Mid West Wind Farm to Power CoRE Games Tour Across the Region

We’re excited to announce that Mid West Wind Farm has joined the CoRE Learning Foundation as a Garnet Sponsor of the upcoming CoRE Games Tour, running from August 18-21, 2025 across Western Australia’s Mid West region.

This four-day tour will bring STEM learning to life for students at ten schools, with hands-on, challenge-based activities from the CoRE Games initiative that connect classroom concepts with real-world problem solving.

A STEM Partnership with Real Impact

Mid West Wind Farm plans to develop, build, and operate a wind farm in the Midwest - a long-term commitment that also includes investing in the next generation of regional talent.

It was great to connect with April and Luke from the Mid West Wind Farm team at last month’s Mid West Economic Forum 2025, where conversations around innovation and regional development made this partnership feel even more timely and aligned.

Science That’s Active, Relevant, and Regional

CoRE Games turn science into something students can experience and apply. From geology to environmental change, each challenge is designed to build core skills in teamwork, problem-solving, and communication.

Games include ‘Old As Dirt!’ a hands-on, roleplaying experience for secondary students where they step into the boots of geoscientists. In teams, they work through eight mini-games that follow the full journey of iron ore in Western Australia - starting from its formation, through exploration and mining, all the way to export.

This game connects closely to the Mid West, too, with iron ore mining operations in the Midwest. We also spotlight the future of mining in our Modern Mine game, where students explore how energy is evolving on mine sites. It dives into the shift toward microgrids, which blend traditional power sources with renewable options. It also looks at the rise of electric vehicles and trucks operating within mines - something that’s already becoming a reality.

In fact, the energy generated by the Mid West Wind Farm will power local mines via these microgrids, helping to run both site operations and electric fleets. It’s a great way to connect the dots between local energy solutions and the next generation of mining.

In addition, Resource! Respond! Rescue!, a Minecraft-based challenge, teaches primary students about natural disasters as they roleplay emergency responses to disasters that could impact the mine and its surrounding town.

Students also get the chance to work alongside CoRE Educators and industry mentors, helping them make the connection between classroom learning and future careers in science, technology, and sustainability.

Strengthening the School-to-Industry Pipeline

With Mid West Wind Farm’s support, we’re bringing immersive STEM learning directly into regional classrooms and building educator capability through hands-on professional development. Industry professionals will also play an active role, sharing insights that help students imagine where STEM can take them.

Together, we’re making the journey from school to career more visible, more engaging, and more achievable - especially for young students in regional WA.
