Over three years in the CoRE Program, 2024 graduate Grace Pring discovered not just what she was passionate about, but why it mattered. Supported by passionate teachers, immersive learning, and a community that valued curiosity Kent Street Senior High School, Grace is now studying environmental science and geology at Curtin University, a path shaped by the real-world learning she experienced in CoRE.
Laying the Groundwork With Field Trips That Bring Learning to Life
“In a CoRE classroom, I always felt engaged by the structure of the class and assignments,” Grace shares. The Business Unit (BU) model didn’t just make learning more interactive - it brought students together in new ways. “Working within BUs allowed me to connect with classmates I might have never talked to otherwise, working together to create an amazing final project.”
CoRE also took Grace beyond the classroom. One field trip in particular made a lasting impression: “My favourite field trip by far was when we went up to Shark Bay and Exmouth in 2023. Seeing fossils of coral way above sea level and connecting that to our learning of paleoclimates helped to make everything click in my mind.”

A STEM Learning Model that Builds Confidence
Through hands-on learning, real-world connections, and constant challenges, Grace built more than academic knowledge, she developed the confidence to pursue a STEM career.
“CoRE always has something new to offer. It has helped me develop time management and leadership skills and inspired me to pursue environmental science and geology at university.”
The Influence of STEM Learning
As Grace gets ready for the next chapter, she looks back with appreciation on how much CoRE has influenced her journey: “I am forever thankful for the teachers who supported me along my learning journey and the skills it has equipped me with.”
Grace’s journey is a great illustration of how the CoRE Learning Model ignites curiosity, builds confidence, and assists students in discovering their role in a constantly evolving world.
